CLASSES

The goal of our dance program is to encourage individuality, creativity, and a love of dance. Our program focuses on building strong technique as a foundation for becoming a well-rounded dancer who is proficient in various styles.

Check out below for descriptions on all of our class offerings. We're sure you will find something fun 'n rewarding!

All new students are allowed ONE free trial class. If you want to try more than one class you are required to pay a drop in class fee if there is a spot in the class. You will have three days to decline the spot after your trial before we begin registration. All details will be emailed to you before the trial class. We will send a follow up email after the trial with your official start date unless you decline the spot.

Intro to Hip Hop

Our Hip Hop classes teach rhythm, coordination, musicality, and choreography. This Intro to Hip Hop class is for our SG Mini’s ages 4-6 years old, who are energetic and willing to learn the basic elements of dance step by step.

Parents/Guardians are welcome to accompany their child during class until the dancer becomes comfortable on her own. 

Attire

SG T-shirt, Black leggings or biker shorts and comfortable sneakers.

Hip Hop

Hip Hop is a dance style, usually danced to hip-hop music, that evolved from the Hip Hop culture. Our Hip Hop classes teach rhythm, coordination, musicality and choreography. Dancers will be encouraged to develop their own unique style and personality to the movements. This class will challenge dancers to think on their feet while enjoying a fun and energetic Hip-Hop class. This class is for our SG Juniors and Seniors, ages 7-18 years old at beginner-advanced levels.

Attire:

SG T-shirt, black leggings or biker shorts and comfortable sneakers.  

Intro to Ballet

This Intro to Ballet class is for our SG Mini’s ages 4-6 years old, who will learn the basic ballet positions of the legs, arms, and basic locomotor movements: balance, hopping, skipping, jumping, and galloping. Parents/Guardians are welcome to accompany their child during class until the dancer becomes comfortable on her own. 

Attire:

Black, brown or purple SG leotard with matching shorts, skirt, or Tutu. Nude tights and ballet shoes. Hair must be pulled back off face.  

Ballet

Ballet is the foundation of all dance disciplines. Our Ballet classes begins with barre exercises, centre practice, and group exercises. Dancers will learn ballet fundamentals and terminology while developing strength, confidence, balance, and flexibility. Ballet requires grace, precision, and passion. This class is for our SG Juniors and Seniors ages 7-18 years old at beginner-advanced levels. 

Attire:

Black, brown or purple SG leotard with matching shorts, skirt, or Tutu. Nude tights and ballet shoes. Hair must be pulled back off face.  

Contemporary

Contemporary dance is a style of expressive dance that combines elements of several dance genres including; modern, jazz, lyrical and classical ballet. This class encourages dancers to be versatile in their expressions, emotion, and connect the mind and the body through fluid dance movements. This class is for our SG Juniors and Seniors ages 7-18 years old at beginner-advanced levels. 

Attire:

SG T-shirt, tank top, or sports bra. Black leggings or biker shorts. NO SHOES!

 

Jazz

Jazz dance combines techniques of classical ballet and modern dance with the current forms of popular dance. Jazz also has its own movement vocabulary ranging from the isolation of certain body parts to the movement of the entire body. Jazz dance can take on many different characteristics and styles, including Street Jazz, Percussive, Broadway, Contemporary and Lyrical. Emphasis is on the importance of energy, rhythm and style. This class is for our SG Juniors and Seniors ages 7-18 years old at beginner-advanced levels.

Attire:

SG T-shirt or tank top. Black leggings or biker shorts and Jazz shoes. 

 

 

SG Performance Team

This free class focuses on detailed choreography, technique and performance! The SG Performance Team is for girls ages 7 to adult, at an intermediate/advanced level, who are ready for more challenging choreography taught at a quicker rate. Dancers must be enrolled in at least one class per term. This group of dancers must be fully committed to represent Sui Generis and perform in the Bermuda Day Parade, Santa Claus Parade, and other invited community events. 

Attire:

SG T-shirt or tank top. Black leggings or biker shorts and comfortable sneakers. 

A costume fee is required for selected performances.  

 

SG Competition Company ‘SG4L’

The SG Competition Company is a free class for advanced dancers ages 9-18yrs, who have a passion for dance, strong technique and performance skills, and dreams of becoming a professional dancer or instructor. The dancer must be enrolled in at least two technique classes and is specifically chosen by a Dance Instructor. Dancers chosen for this class will have the opportunity to shadow an Instructor. This Team of dancers will travel overseas and compete in dance competitions and attend workshops. 

Attire:

SG T-shirt or tank top. Black leggings or biker shorts and comfortable sneakers. 

A costume fee is required for dance competitions and traveling expenses.

Level Skills:

Level 1:

Intro- A great place to start if you’re interested in a new dance style or have never taken dance classes before. You will be taught the basic elements of dance, step by step and eventually be ready for the next level of classes. This may include rhythm, counting, placement, transitions, repetition of movements and body isolations. 

 

Level 2:

Beginning-Intermediate- Dancers who have mastered Level 1 and are ready to apply foundational knowledge into more detailed dance choreography at a faster rate. 

 

Level 3:

Intermediate-Advanced- Dancers who have mastered fundamentals up to Level 2 and are ready

for more challenging choreography that focuses more on technique and performance skills at a quicker rate. 

 

Level 4:

Advanced- Experienced dancers who want to advance to a professional performance level.

These classes are taught at a proficient rate with exceptional attention to detail and texture of movement. A great place for dancers who are up for a challenge and love to perform!
